XHTML: Intro to XHTML

In this tutorial I will explain:
•What XHTML is…
•What XHTML does…
•And some common questions about XHTML.

XHTML stands for EXtensible Hyper Text Markup Language. XHTML is used to create websites on the World Wide Web (WWW). It’s normally used with other scripting and markup languages like JavaScript, PHP, XML and CSS to create dynamic, interactive and fun websites. XHTML is the new standard [As declared by W3C] replacing HTML 4.1 to make websites more compatible in the world of WEB 2.0. XHTML is currently at version 1.0.

XHTML is nearly always viewed through a web browser like Firefox or Internet Explorer which converts the XHTML code into a viewable page. XHTML is not a powerful markup language but never the less you can do some neat things with it. XHTML is a great coding language because it’s simple and branches off onto other coding languages.

I’m going to answer some popular questions about XHTML…

What is XHTML?
•XHTML is the ‘updated’ HTML…
•XHTML is nearly identical to HTML 4.1…
•XHTML is used to create the base of websites.

How do I create an XHTML file?
•XHTML can be written in any text editor like Notepad, gEdit, or TextEdit…
•XHTML files must have a .xhtml ending in order to run properly.

    Hi,
I was just going through this website. I would like to inquire about a web page I am trying to build. This web page I am trying build is for a project. It will not be going officially on the net, but I seem to have some problem with the pictures in my web page. After typing the code in the Notepad, the picture did not show up. Just an ‘X’ substitute the picture. I even linked it to the source: Eg: , but my picture just remains an ‘X’. If i changed the width and height, the blank box will just be bigger with the same size ‘X’ in it (’X’ because I am currently using Firefox). Can you help me, or tell me what I am doing wrong, please? Your prompt reply is appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Yours faithfully,
    BRYAN

Sounds to me like your image is of an “x”, usually it’s hard for someone to know what the problem is with your website without seeing its source code.
